In 2010, SYHS did not have a single wifi connection anywhere on campus.

In the 2010-11 school year, the faculty began a guided book study of "21st Century Skills: Learning for Life in Our Times." Conversations about the shifting nature of education away from pure content towards skills acquisition and how that would change instruction at SYHS began.

In 2011, SYHS got it's first WiFi access points were installed in public areas such as school offices and in common areas such as the library.

In 2011, our first mobile cart, a cart of iPads, was purchased for a cross-disciplinary pilot class in science and mathematics. Though the class was a one-year, one-off, the cart continued to be used for 21st century style lessons.

In 2012, the district superintendent directed the IT department to buildout WiFi capacity to be able to accommodate at least three connections for every student and staff member on campus.

In 2013, IT upgraded the Internet connection to the campus to a T1 line in advance of campuswide WiFi rollout.

During the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years, teachers who purchased their own iPad meeting certain standards were provided with an Apple TV for their classroom and paid for 10 hours of curriculum development using the new devices.

In 2014, WiFi hubs were installed in every classroom, in all public areas and in all common areas, effectively blanketing the campus with wireless access.

In 2015 teachers' tower computers were replaced with Microsoft Surface Pros. Projectors in classrooms were adapted with wireless dongles facilitating the projection of tablet images from anywhere in the classroom.

In 2015, a mobile laptop cart with 35 laptops was purchased for the Freshman Focus curriculum, a new required freshman course in 2015-16.

in 2016, SYHS adopted the Canvas Learning Management System as our schoolwide learning management system. All teachers in all classes began using the LMS to publish assignments, instructional materials, and grades.

In 2016, absent any movement in the budget for a true 1:1 program, SYHS semi-officially decided to go with "Bring Your Own Device" as a standard to facilitate the rollout of the Canvas LMS. A few iPad Minis were purchased to check out to those who did not have and could not afford a device.

In the 2018-19 school year, a group of teachers who are committed to technological innovation in curriculum, instruction and assessment will be identified to receive a sizable investment in resources to give them the tools to truly experiment with and demonstrate the possibilities of 21st century instructional and assessment techniques.

In 2018 and beyond, SYHS will continue to invest in professional development, teacher technologies, and student technologies in our ongoing march to a 1:1 environment. Current technologies such as Canvas and our Aeries student information system will continue to be supported and implemented as they become more robust and powerful teaching and learning tools.
