This was a set of resolutions between the north and south. It ended with the slave act. -

California was previously owned by Mexico. It became 31st state. -
The Kansas/Nebraska Act
It let Kansas and Nebraska decide if they were slave states or not. It repealed the Missouri compromise. -
The Dred Scott Decision
A slave went to a free state and was told he was not aloud to be free. He was told that he was not a US citizen.
