Adam Onis Treaty
The United States and Spain define the boundaries of the Louisiana Purchase. Spain surrenders its claims to the Pacific Northwest and the United States agrees top recognize Spain's sovereignty in Texas. (Later America will take over Texas.)

Indian Removal Act
President Andrew Jackson puts into effect an Indian Removal policy. This policy leads to the trail of Tears. -
Oregon Trail
The American people spread west. Mostly fur traders and missionaries had been traveling to this area since 1820. In 1843 the first major wagon train to the northwest departs from Elm Grove, Missouri, on the Oregon Trail. -

Gold is found in California and a rush of migrants flood to that area. -
Transcontinental Railroad
First railroad complete and helped in westward settlement. Instead of taking six to eight months by wagon, it only took one week.
