    Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was when Thomas Jefferson of the U.S. purchased 827,000 square miles of land for $15 million. It relates to Manifest Destiny because it expanded our territory and continued the push westward. This affected our geography because it expanded our territory by a lot, and more natural resources were available to us. This affected national policy because a treaty was created to allow this large purchase of territory.

    Lewis and Clark
    This expedition was government-sponsored and led by two people named Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. They traveled from Pennslyvania to the east coast. This affected our geography because they were the first to know what the new territory had and how to use its resources. This affected national policy because we made a relationship by trading with some Native Americans who then helped us defeat the enemy in the World Wars.

  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    It was a war fought between Britain and the U.S. from June 1812 to December 1814. It was caused by Britain forcing Americans to serve in their Navy, and the British talking with the Indians. It relates to Manifest Destiny and our geography because areas like Alabama became open for settlement. It affected national policy because the Treaty of Ghent came to be. This treaty set up for the British-American alliance which came in the 1900s.

  • The Gold Rush

    The Gold Rush
    The gold was found in California when James Marshall found bits at Sutter’s Mill. It relates to Manifest Destiny because it inspired people to go westward to find gold. This event affected our geography because people had to support themselves in a relatively unknown area. The rise in population also went on to create a popular U.S. hot spot, San Francisco. It affected national policy because Californians made a state constitution after the Mexican-American War in order to get the territory.
