Finding a New Home
Although I was only 3-4 years old this was probably one of the most impactful moments of my life. Before going to Brewster I resided in the Bronx with my family. I started to attend pre-school and I was antisocial with the other children. This wasn't the leading factor for my family moving away since later I was found out to be fine, it was more that I would live a better life and get more opportunities in a suburban area and it's safer. 13 years later I'm still here living my best life. -
"Glasses Are For Nerds"
The phrase “glasses are for nerds” is pretty common in elementary school and even in cartoons the smart guys always got glasses on. After a small baseball accident I was told that I needed glasses to see properly which really made my stubborn side show as I would always refuse to wear them because I was no nerd. It got to the point where punishments would be put in at home and school. Even so I still refused up until 2018 where now I think I look bad without them. -
Band Prodigy?? Discovering the Euphonium
Every year Brewster schools does what's called an instrument petting zoo. A place where all the children interested in band get to test all sorts of instruments and see what they could be interested in. The euphonium isn't the most popular instrument but I just thought “mini tuba looks fun.” I learned the basics and just did what the teachers told me and apparently I was really good. Knowing that I could do something well was great and that probably why I've continued band for many years. -
The Long Lasting Pet
Pets are huge responsibilities to take on for some people. I've had pets like fish that last 4 days but after getting a bit lonely at the house and many hours of begging I convinced my parents to get a bird because I thought they were cool. This would be the first pet that would last longer than 4 months for me and I thought I was ready for some responsibility. Turns out the bird immediately got imprinted to my mother and she took over the responsibility after two weeks of owning him. -
Introduction to "The Crew Crew"
For almost all of my elementary years of school I've always made a couple of friends that I would stick with for that year only. Middle school rolls around and that rule completely changed for me as I found my true friend group that I still am with today. Just being in a class with one person and having small talk could get you a long way considering that's how I got introduced to what was known as The Crew Crew. These people really helped shift my personality into what it is today. -
Lv2 NYSSMA Soloist
I never thought being professionally judged would be scary but after my first experience at the NYSSMA Solo Festival, I knew I was wrong. Even after preparing for this for about 2 months in advance the moment I walked into the room with the judge my heart just sank and I though it was all over. Throughout the whole thing he was silent except for when he asked me to start. When I received my score there was a note saying that what happened was common but I dont think I could get used to it. -
Brown Belt Acquired
Taekwondo was an odd sport for me to take on but I learned to like it. It taught me good things like self-defense, leadership, and discipline. The night I got my brown belt was very tense for me as one single screw up and the test was over. The test included endurance tests, sparring with higher members, and the showing of all the forms up to brown. It was a long night and fortunately was successful as I acquired the brown belt. Although I quit shortly after from losing interest. -
First Job Experience
Camp counselor is many teens first job. Camp counselor of Camp Herrlich was my first ever real job that paid. I actually couldn't make the first day due to health related business but the first day I was actually there was a nightmare. Watching and entertaining kids was fine but when one of them runs off, it's terrible. My first day ever having a normal job I almost got fired from a runaway child. Luckily I was able to survive the rest of summer without messing up that bad again. -
Bull & Barrel Brew Pub (2nd Job)
Becoming a Bus/Run for the B&B was the greatest feeling ever considering many of my friends have the same position. Learning what goes on behind the scenes in a restaurant was also pretty cool. No extreme mistakes were made during my training shifts and I learned that in order to enjoy your job you have to like the boss. Another plus is that I am officially a verified bull operator which is a skill that not many people around here have so it makes me feel a little special. -
Victory (Tennis Edition)
Freshman year of Brewster Tennis was a constant losing streak for me and Sophomore years tennis experience wasn't too much different. After getting the honor of 1st singles or “best player” I would constantly get destroyed by people twice as good as me. The match vs Mahopac went a bit different though. To this day I'm still not sure if this truly was their best player since all schools knew that Brewster was bad but I managed to score a victory for myself making me feel really good.
