Birth
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was born in a small city state next to Florence on April 15, 1452.
His father was Ser Piero de Antonio da Vinci, who was a notary, and his mother, Caterina da Vinci.
He was raised by his father and grandfather, but when they were away for business, he would stay with his uncle.
His uncle was the person who got him interested in the natural world. -

Leonardo Da Vinci's childhood (1452–1466)
He spent his first five years in the hamlet of Anchiano in the home of his mother, and from 1457 he lived in the household of his father in the small town of Vinci.
His parents married several times and had 12 childs, so Da Vinci had 12 siblings. -

Leonardo da Vinci's Apprenticeship with Verrochio
In 1465, Leonardo Da Vinci left Vinci to start his apprenticeship with Verrochio, who was a famous Florentine artist.
There, he learned about painting, sculpting and drawing.
Because Verrocchio was also an engineer, Leonardo also learned about engineering.
In 1478, Leonardo stopped working for Verrochio and decided start working alone. -

Florence
Da Vinci spent 1467 to 1482 in Florence.
When Da Vinci was 15, he was forced to move there because his father had to go there for business.
There he got an education and started to work with Verrochio.
This event is really important because he learned a lot of significant things in school that later will help with his inventions. -

His first work
The first work of Da Vinci was the construction of the sphere of copper projected by Brunelleschi to crown the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
To help with the construction of the cathedral, he also invented the very first crane. -

The start of his inventions
In 1480, Leonardo Da Vinci started to draw sketches of his inventions.
They were mostly weapons for war, flying machines, or work tools. -

In 1478 he left the workshop of Verrochio and started painting his very first painting.
This picture is the start of his painting career. -

Milan
Leonardo Da Vinci served as the artist for the Duke of Millan from 1482 to 1499. During this period he painted many paintings, and also served as an engineer, designing military weapons and devices. For example, he invented an early machine gun.
This period of his life was very important because it lead to many of his future inventions. -

In 1482 the Duke of Milan offered Leonardo to be part of the court of Milan (The National Gallery ) as the painter and local engineer.
In this period of time he made famous works, such as: the Virgin of the Rocks, or The Last Dinner. -

Mona Lisa
In 1503, Leonardo da Vinci had begun his greatest masterpiece, The Mona Lisa, a portrait of a woman seated in front of beautiful scenery. Many people assume that the top half of the woman's face was Da Vinci's face but this hasn't been proved yet.
This is a very significant painting because it is one of the most famous paintings of history. -

Leonardo da Vinci made great advances in the mechanics area in 1506.
He invented devices that would work with gears to do different things like clutches.
This is really important because these advances really helped the development of modern inventions. -

Flying machine
Leonardo da Vinci always had a dream of flying. He designed multiple flying machines in 1508 using different propulsion methods and wing styles, but he never succeded.
This is also a really important event because although he never succeeded, his failed designs sped up the invention of airplanes and helicopters. -

Death
On the 2nd of May 1519 at the age of 67 Da Vinci died in Amboise, Kingdom of France
Da Vinci has contributed to the world not only because of his beautiful artworks, but also with his inventions.
Thanks to him, we have been able to invent everyday objects that help us in our daily life. -
