Prenatal Development to Age 2 Years
Fetuses can hear the tone and rhythm of voices and sounds, mostly the mother. Infants begin to coo, then eventually babble and make sounds. At around 12 months, their words and sounds increase and they will eventually say their first recognizable word. Vocabulary will expand and they will start to pair two words together. -
Ages 2 to 5 (Preschool)
In this stage, children will begin to pair several words together, eventually sentences. The sentences are mostly understandable and they begin to follow simple instructions in this stage. They begin to understand the meaning of words and their vocabulary increases. -
Ages 6 to 12
At this stage, they begin to understand and form more complex sentences. They can keep a conversation going for longer. They can tell time and repeat phrases. They then begin to read more and enjoy reading more. Around 10-12, children begin to write stories and letters, read successfully, and enjoy making friends and maintaining those friendships.
