Just a bit 'bout me

  • Calgary born and raised!

    Calgary born and raised!
I could add more details, but honestly I don't have a lot of pictures from that time of my life on my computer. I have two loving parents, Janneane and Brad, two siblings (Jevin and Jaelyn). Met my best friend Dave in grade 4 and we still talk on a weekly basis. Our house was always a menagerie of pets growing up, funny that I would go on to marry a vet! Now lets move on to the next detail!
  • Learning of my love of sport

Learning of my love of sport
Throughout both junior high an high school I found I had a love for sport, specifically the sport of wrestling. I was a multi-sport athlete until I entered university and focused my efforts solely on wrestling
  • Starting the post secondary journey

    Starting the post secondary journey
Graduating from James Fowler High School in 2010, I wasted no time enrolling in the fall of 2010 in a Bachelor of Arts degree at U of C. At this time I was also a full time varsity athlete in the sport of wrestling.
  • Where were you all this time?!?

Where were you all this time?!?
You ever meet someone who truly changes your world for the better? In my short time on this earth I have only met two people which truly changed me and I consider to be my chosen family. One is my best friend Dave and the other I met in 2014 at the U of C Bermuda Shorts Day; my future wife Alyson.
  • Wait, you are telling me I get to sleep here?

Wait, you are telling me I get to sleep here?
2014 was a huge year for me in as I also found my love for difficult outdoor pursuits. I had always loved being outside and in nature, but in 2014 (September) I got the opportunity to try backcountry camping for the first time. I was hooked, something about the sheer difficulty appealed to me, I still love it to this day, but since moving to the east I've found other activities to fill my time outside.
  • Okay, we are done school now right?!?

In 2015 I finished my first Bachelor degree in Urban Studies (arts). I will be honest, I did not have much of a plan at this point, nor did I see myself becoming a teacher...
  • Okay, we will do one more Bachelor level degree...

Okay, we will do one more Bachelor level degree...
After being a head coach of a wrestling program and swim instructor for almost eight years, I was convinced by my future wife that I in fact DID enjoy teaching and working with children. And so began my journey to become a teacher and in 2018 I graduated from my Bachelor of Education program.
  • Yay a Teaching Position!

    Yay a Teaching Position!
From the winter of 2019 to the fall of 2020 I taught at Crossing Park School teaching grade 5. I found during this contract I had two passions in teaching: teaching outdoor education and teaching sciences!
  • Time for a change

My contract with Crossing Park School ended right as the pandemic started. I spent six months not working as a teacher as all the subs where temporarily laid off. When the schools began to reopen my partner and I moved to Edmonton to pursue a career opportunity for her which also allowed me to take on a teaching position with Edmonton Public.
  • A puppy!

    A puppy!
As I said, pets are a big part of my life, and in 2020 we adopted the cutest Australian Shepherd puppy that would grow to be my furry best friend Milo!
  • Teaching something new

In 2021 I was given the unique opportunity to teach at Belgravia school in Edmonton where I was tasked with creating and implementing a program called "Outdoor Enrichment". This was a class where three days a week I would take the students out of their classroom and teach mostly science and social studies based lessons in an outdoor environment.
  • Wait, you weren't married yet?

    Wait, you weren't married yet?
May 30, 2021. I married the person who simply brings out the best (and sometimes the worst) in me! Could not imagine being with anyone else, especially after 9 years!
  • NYC

    NYC
In July of 2021 we packed up our entire life and moved to NYC to support my wife's pursuit of doing a residency program in Laboratory animal medicine. I then started teaching in the after care industry as I was not certified to teach in most US schools.
  • Life-long learner

    Life-long learner
Shortly after starting my role as an afterschool educator here in the USA, I started my graduate program at the University of Alberta (curriculum and pedagogy). I choose to return to school as I felt I would benefit to have more formal education and having my masters of education would create a lot of opportunities while I lived in the USA which my BEd. did not.
  • Finding new journeys

    Finding new journeys
So as if moving to NYC and starting my masters was not enough; we decided to sell our house in Canada and then but a 38 year old sail boat! I then did a full keel to water line revival of the keel and bottom paint, plus a long list of other things to make this boat sea worthy. It has been a Hindrance at times, but this project brings both my wife and I immense amounts of joy too!
  • And now we are here

    And now we are here
Recently I have left my position as an afterschool educator and am in the process of creating my own school enrichment program here in the NYC area. We adopted a new cat named Queen E iii, and I have been caring for my wife who broke her foot last Wednesday. Looking forward to the term and getting to experience new tech which I can implement into my next classroom!
