Jamestown
The creation of Jamestown was created and in Virginia. Jamestown was a small settlement and the first of 13 British colonies in America. They had to persevere and power through many rough patches, like diseases. -
Fort Necessity
This was the first battle in the French and Indian war. This kicked off the entire war and caused many battles. This started because the French moved into American territory and Washington beat the French with a surprise attack. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was meant to stop wars between the Britains and the Native Americans. The Proclamation prevented the colonial settlement west of a line drawn beside the Appalachian Mountains. (AHN pg. 145-6) -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a law passed by the British parliament. This act forced the colonists to buy certain stamps for all products and activities. The stamps were places on all official documents etc. (AHN pg. 147) -
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence stated that America was independent from Britain. The Declaration of Independence included many new laws the Americans made and constructed to make sure that what happened with Britain didn't happen to America(HA ch.5 sec.3) -
The Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War. This treaty ended the war and made peace between the French and the British. -
The Cotton Gin
The Cotton Gin was made by a man named Eli Whitney in 1792. Whitney made the Cotton Gin to stop slavery and decrease how many slaves there were in America. The Cotton Gin only increased the amount of slaves and did the opposite of its purpose because it made the cotton process quicker so the slave owners wanted more slaves so they could have more cotton at the end of the day. -
The Louisiana Purchase
In 1803 Thomas Jefferson purchased a piece of land to the west of the Mississippi River which gained a ton of land for the United States from France. Jefferson defied his orders to buy a piece of land a bought a bigger piece of land which made the Louisiana Purchase(AMU pg. 72). -
The Telegraph
The Telegraph was made by Samuel Morse, and other inventors. This invention helped with long distance communication and it worked by transmitting electrical signals between wire from station to station. This helped commanders in war because they could communicate with the government. -
The First Telegraph Line
Samuel F. B. Morse made the first telegraph line. He made it to send messages by electric signals, he did it using morse code which was named after him(HA ch.13 sec.2). -
Minie Ball
The Minie Ball was a new and advanced type of bullet that was faster, more accurate, more dangerous, and easier to load and was used by the French Army and spread to many other armies which then used this type of bullet. -
Guns
Guns were invented in the 1860's during the American Civil War. Guns affected many wars because it changed the outcome of many wars because if they didn't have guns, then one side wouldn't have the advantage. This means that the other side could have won and changed all of history. -
The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad was founded by the "Big Four" who were four rich merchants who came together and were looking for support from the government for the transcontinental railroad. The transcontinental railroad helped transport items from the East to West and vice-versa(HA ch.12 sec.3). -
Postcard
The postal card was invented by a man named John P. Charlton in Philadelphia. -
Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was a gun fight hosted by angry Southerners and this is a conflict because when all else failed, they turned to guns without talking about their issues (HA Ch.9 Sec.4) -
Shiloh Attack
This attack happened when the Confederates held a surprise attack on Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's troops who were unprepared for war. "I can't spare this man; he fights," stated Lincoln during the battle. -
The Gatling Gun
The Gatling Gun was a machine gun helped speed up the reloading process during wars. This was invented by Richard J. Gatling and consists of many barrels revolving around and firing bullets rapidly. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler first used this gun in the Civil War, and he was working with the Union. -
The Telephone
The Telephone was invented in 1873 and was used to talk with another person while being far away from each other. -
The Phone
In 1877 Bell founded the Bell Telephone Company and soon after invented the first telephone. By 1893 more than 250,000 phones were in use and running through America. This was a huge moment in history and was a big milestone in technology(HA ch.13 sec.2). -
The End of the Reconstruction Period
This is after the Compromise of 1877 when the Reconstruction Period ended and all of the troops were drawn from the South in America. -
Edison Electric Light Company
Edison received money from a group of capitalists led by J. P. Morgan who then made the Edison Electric Light Company in 1880. The financial supporters helped Edison follow his pursue his vision and Edison ended up making the first lightbulb(HA ch.13 sec.2). -
The Ellis Island Immigration Center
In 1892 the Immigration Station opened in Ellis Island which was the post of immigration from Europe to America(New York). At Ellis Island if you were an immigrant, you would go through many tests to see if you would be let into United States(HA ch.15 sec.3) -
Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
This marked the start of the World War I. -
Mustard Gas
Mustard Gas was an invention in WWI to help fight when trench warfare was in use. -
Superglue
Superglue was invented during WWII. -
MacArthur accepts Japan’s surrender
The Japanese surrendered to the Allies. -
The Transistor
The Transistor was made at the beginning of the Cold War and was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1956. -
Cuban Missile Crisis is over
John F. Kennedy announces that the Cuban Missile Crisis is over during the Cold War.
