Privacy and the Internet

The TV Can't Steal Our Personal Information
The Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984 protects the personal information of cable customers. It is customary that the cable provider produces a privacy practice notice to each subscriber. These include the uses that customer information collected may be used.
C+ - Although the intentions of this privacy acts are good at hand, I find it to be unnecessary. Whatever personal information collected is used obviously to pay for the cable. -
Protecting Your Personal Information
The Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 covers all web searches and required parental consent of the disclosure of personal identifiable information. The act’s design is to limit government access to personal information and disclosures to third-parties.
B- - I feel that this act is important for it takes necessary measures to insure that the government doesn’t go about spreading personal information, yet I feel like the act lacks stronger standards and restrictions on personal info. -
Protecting Your Children from Creeps Since 1998
It is required under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 that a parent receive notifications to each website their child provides their email address to and be given the right access any information that their child has shared. It has been argued, however, that this act prevents kids from enjoying time on the internet because of the parental controls.
F – This act is totally unnecessary and intrudes on the private lives of kids and teens -
Saving Our Citizens
The Wireless Communication and Public Safety Act designate 911 as being the emergency telephone number within the United States for emergencies and assistance. This is extended to both wire line and wireless telephones.
A+- Millions of lives have been saved because of the 911 telephone system and if it wasn’t for it being installed, accidents resulting in death and homicides would be dramatically higher. -
Being In Control of Your Internet Content
The Cal.Bus. & Prof. Code § 22575 requires the operator of a website to disclose information about online tracking and how it responds to a “Do Not Track” symbol. It also gives customers the choice to exercise online tracking and release personal information.
B- I think the policy is good in the sense that you know the tracking guidelines to websites you visit and also about how you want your personal formation released. -
Obama Will Protect Our Personal Info
Obama’s Privacy Bill of Rights for Consumers is a plan to improve and protect the privacy of consumers and ensure that the Internet remains an engine for innovation and economic growth. This will enable users to have more control over how personal information of theirs is shared online and to help businesses maintain consumer trust.
D- -I don’t see how this bill really benefits anyone considering how vaguely written it is. -
You Can't See My Facebook Page
Under A.B. 1844, employers are prohibited from requiring an employee to release the password or username of their personal social media site. It is also prohibited that an employer fires an employee for not releasing such information.
A+-It’s great that employers are prohibited for accessing the personal information of the employers because it is none of their business what their employees do in their personal lives. It’s an invasion of privacy.
