  • The Haitian Revolutions

    The Haitian Revolutions
    The leaders in this war was Henry Christopher, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Donatien-Marie-Joseph, Napoleon, Sir John, Andre Rigard, & Federico Carlos. What happened: Haiti was the only country where slave freedom was taken by force, and marks the only successful slave revolt in modern times. There was a lot of slavery going on those years. In addition, Haiti was the first country in Latin America to gain independence, second only to the United States in the Americas as a whole.
  • The Columbia Revolution

    The Columbia Revolution
    The leader was Spanish king Ferdinand VII who led to strife in New Granada and to declarations of independence. What happened: The spanish didn't like the spanish rules so they protested until they got their independence. Fighting for independence, Simón Bolivar defeats the Spanish at Boyaca. The republic of Gran Colombia (includes present day Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela) is created.
  • The Argentina Revolution

    The Argentina Revolution
    The leaders were General San Martin, & Manuel Belrano. What happened: The country was split between Federalists, mostly rich landowners from the interior provinces who wanted a confederation of strong, who make the port of Buenos aires the focus of the nation. After the British invasions were successfully repelled, mixed sentiments dominated the settlers. Pride at having defeated the imperial power was tempered by frustration at the incompetence and impotence of their Spanish colonial masters

    The Brazilian Revolution
    The leader was Dom Pedro. What happened: Brazil gained its independence on September 7th, 1822, when Dom Pedro proclaimed Brazil's independence after an antagonistic relationship with Portugal proved too much for the Brazilian people. It all began when Napoleon I invaded Portugal in 1807. The Cortes ordered Dom Pedro to go home because they feared an independent movement. Dom Pedro was crowned emperor on December 1, 1822.
  • The Mexican Revolutions

    The Mexican Revolutions
    The leaders were Francisco Madero, Pascual Orozco, Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata. What happened: Eleven years after the outbreak of the Mexican War of Independence, Spanish Viceroy Juan de O’Donojú signs the Treaty of Córdoba, which approves a plan to make Mexico an independent constitutional monarchy. They needed there freedom.
  • The Venezuela Revolution

    The Venezuela Revolution
    The leaders were Francisco de Miranda, a long-term Venezuelan expatriate, and Simón Bolívar. What happened: they would rule themselves until such time as the Spanish monarchy was restored. For those who truly wanted independence, such as young Simón Bolívar, it was a half-victory, but still better than no victory at all.
  • The Ecuador Revolution

    The Ecuador Revolution
    The leaders of this were Venezuelan Simón Bolívar Palacios and the Argentinean José de San Martín. What happened: The rest of Ecuador gained its independence after Antonio José de Sucre defeated the Spanish Royalist forces at the Battle of Pichincha, near Quito. Following the battle, Ecuador joined Simón Bolívar's Republic of Gran Colombia, also including modern-day Colombia, Venezuela and Panama.
  • The Peru Revolution

    The Peru Revolution
    The leaders were Jose de San Martin of Argentina and Simon Bolivar of Venezuela. They launched Peru's movement toward independence. San Martin led the military campaign of 4,200 soldiers. What happened: As a result, Peru achieved independence (1821) largely because of the efforts of outsiders, notably José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar. After he had ended Spanish rule in Chile in 1818, San Martín captured the Peruvian port of Pisco in 1820
