Meeting Kaylin (Italy)
Well, what can you describe her as? My mom and Her mom(aka Mrs. Schultz) Conspired that we should be friends and told us both to befriend one another. Coincidentally, we were in the same camp. Everything fell into place after that, and she quickly became one of my closest friends. Let's hope it stays that way. -

My Freshman Year of highschool.... -
Metacognition
The first real working day of Mrs. L's class, we recieved our first Word Wall Word. Little did I know that it would affect the year to come. "Metacognition is defined as "cognition about cognition", or "knowing about knowing." (Wikipedia) Because we recieved this word at the beginning of the year, I've been knowing about knowing and tying that in with Schema all year. And it can only grow from there. -
Tickets, sweat, and a sweet southern drawl. (Trails West)
I worked Trails West for Band for the first time this year. We sat in ticket booths all day(especially for me) And believe me when I say that water was my very best friend. I remember southern drawl from Daniel Stephan's Mother; I worked a booth with her. It was a day of gasps and sleep deprivation; tickets and sweet water. It was a day I'll remember forever. -
First Volleyball Game of High-School Career!
It was pretty nervewracking to have our first game on the home-court that night; Not counting the fact that we were the first team to play and I was starting! We didn't win that night, but I am sure as sure can be that that first game was pivotal to the 'jelling' of the team. -
Song of My life
We did a Paper in Mrs. L's class that was about a song, and how it pertained to our lives. It was hard to pick a song that represented me as a whole. I chose Soul Surivior by Angels and Airwaves, and I must say, I think it was a great choice. the song has many meanings, and I am very proud of this work. It was such a hard assignment because not one song defines a human being. Not one thing describes us but a myriad of different traits and events defines us. That's what makes us human. -
Last V-ball game...
It was the last match of the season, against the other 'red' school. Chilicothe, and that night I actually was able to play a J,V, game. It was a very good learning experience for me, to be able to play with more experienced players. It was a great close to the season. -
Beauty is Truth, and Truth is Beauty....
We were learning T-REX, and it was time for an assignment. An Essay, in which we used the T-REX model. Now, I don't like using the TREX model, but it does work. I came up with several truths throughout the months. From bane truths like "The Truth is that the truth hurts, to some others, this essay helped me to learn that anyone can make words of wisdom. Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.... -
Sometimes your worst words are remembered the best.
This was the truth I based my essay for Beauty is Truth off of. I really think this is a piece of wisdom because It relates not only to me, but to countless others as well. How many words that were flung around do you wish you could take back? -
Opening Night of Drowsy Chaperone!
THroughout the first semester, I had the honor of participating in the pit band for our firts school musical in 12 years. Though we went through several stressful days of prep and times I jsut wanted to quit, everyone encouraged me to pull through. I was a part of the first theatre production since I 5th Grade. I'm so glad I did, because it opened up a door into a world I'm so glad to take part in. -
Breakfast Club
In class we watched a video from the breakfast club. And from that, I learned about stereotypes. My stereotype would definitely be the brain, but like I said in the "song of my life", not one thing can define us. I'm not just a brain, though everyone labels me as such. Don't get me wrong, I like being a brain, What if someone doesn't like their stereotype? Then they go to so much time to change it. Stereotypes don't matter. It's nothing but a word. Don't let it rule you. -
First Basketball Game (Central!)
I don't think any amount of preparing could have gotten the freshman girls ready for their first game of their highschool career. Not only that, but it was against Central, the big and supposedly 'evil' school that gloated about better teams. We didn't win that night, but we went from a devastating loss to a close game just in the second half. As much as I would have liked to win, I think it was better to have our first game be a loss; you learn more from losses than wins. -
Do Hard Things - Rebelution
The RebelutionI read the book by twins extrodinaire, Alex and Brett Harris. This book is in a christian mindset and talks about how society is letting teens slip by, and teaching us nothing really. Their mission is to stop that, and to become really, Ideal teens for today. It's about doing hard things... And I accepted this Challenge. -
The Revivalution
The Rivivalution Over Christmas break I recieved Inspiration from God to start a sort of revival at Benton High. I had vigor at the beginning, but quickly lost it when school started back up. I consider the fall of the Revivalution one of my greatest failures, and I plan to get it running again. I believe that it can make a difference. -
Best of Intentions
I wasn't so sure that I'd even be a part of my older sister's band. i was so busy with school and sports that it just didn't seem possible. But when they came to be looking for a bass player, I oblidged. I learned the music on my new bass, and from then on I was super busy. But I was having fun. Best of Intentions is something that I have grown with. From our first gig (Nick graduating his secondary school) to Aryn graduating senior year next week, we've grown together as a band. -
Omaha 2011
Jazz band went on a trip to Omaha in Febuary to take part in a Jazz festival. This trip holds so many memories. From Escorts in the mall (see picture) Late night phone calls, Hot tub at 7 in the morning, changing clothes on the hallway...to such things like Flower hats, bible studies at 2 in the morning, hugging and crying and a bout of car-sickness. This trip hols so many memories I cna't contain them all. We watched a award winning Jazz Singer, played for strangers and met new friends. -
The Brothers Grimm
This might be my biggest learning experience of all second semester, maybe all year. The Brothers Grimm Spectacularthon was my first theatrical production outside of Red Riding Hood when I was 6. From it I learned that I can memorize momologues, learn stage combat (and have four successful fight scenes) Make my voice sound like an elf, and I can pull that bearded look off. Okay so really, I learned people skills, public speaking/acting skills (which I used for StuCo,) And so much more. Grateful. -
Minecraft
Kayleigh Peregrine convinced me to actually buy Minecraft. Let me tell you, it's addicting. I learned a lot of tricks about gaming from that game, and it's really a craetive game. Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers, I listen for their sounds in my sleep. After all, I don't want Phallic Symbols blowing up my house anytime soon. -
Into StuCo I go!
On this day, I stood shakily in front of the whole freshman class and gave a speach that included batman, chuck norris, and Yogi Bear. I remember naught of the speech but of the feeling I had as my opponents gave their speeches. I felt good that mine was the longest and in my opinion, the best, but at the same time I feel bad about my competitiors losses. Now I am Sophmore Vice-Prez for next year, and I couldn't be happier... -
Much Too High A Cost...
THis is my writing piece that I am most proud of...because it is my first actually finished work. Sure I've started stories and poems that have been published, but this is something that I did on my very own. Pieter Retzjer is my own creation, and his situation was not uncommon during the Holocaust. I hope my story brought awareness about as I shared it online. This story is close to my heart, and I cannot wait to see how I have grown as a writer between now and senior year. -
Opening night Of One Acts
It was nervewracking to be in the first play on the first night, only if I had one line. Everyone spent so much time on these plays, from writing it to auditions and rehersals. It was truly an experience I shan't forget. Because of this festival, I am now writing two one acts that I will hopefully have done sometime soon. Be on the lookout for my name in the program! -
Killer Joe is sing sing singing with The Incredibles
The title you see is a match of some songs we palyed at the last Jazz band Concert of the year. THis year was my first year ever playing bass, and I feel as though I grew so much as a musician this year in that class. I made life-long friends, great memories, and it all showed in the concert in that ver, very, hot auditorium that monday night.
