  • Submarine

    Cornelis Drebbel invented the first submarine. Its an underwater ship. The submarines played an important role in America's military strategies.
  • Flying Shuttle

    John Kay was an English inventor who invented the flying shuttle. Starting in England, he made this device that helped take an important step towards automatic weaving. Some manufactures used the flying shuttle.
  • Cotton Gin

    Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin. This machine helped laborers harvest cotton with little effort. It seperated cotton from its seed. The Cotton Gin changed society because cotton eventually became a dominent crop in the South. Unfortuantely, it had an effect on prolonging slavery in the U.S.
  • Reaper

    Invented by Cyrus Hall McCormick. The first reaper made was in Chicago.This machine made growing wheat efficently more possible. Its a self-raker. The invention later helped make the economic development in Midwest.
  • Sewing Machine

    Elias Howe invented took credit for making the first sewing machine. It stitched only straight seams for the length of the baster plate, which then had to be reset. First it had little success in America, but in Europe it became popular.The sewing machine were a huge part of manufacturing clothing later on.
