Influencing Computers 1900-1911

  • Spread Spectrum

    Spread Spectrum
Inventor: Nikola Tesla Spread Spectrum is the Great Great Great Great Grandparent to Wifi, bluetooth and cell phone technology. From my understanding it is when communication information is “spread” out over many frequencies to be delivered to its designated location, by doing this the security is increased and the ability to interfere or jam the signal is lessened. • 3M Founded

    3M Founded
Not really an invention YET, but 3M was founded as a company. 3M makes a lot of small electronic parts for computers and other digital technologies such as semiconductors and microchips. Logo Source

It's the on/off button! Im kinda shocked that it’s this “new”. This is actually a science experiment that my 5th graders get to do from the district! They love learning about circuits and how they work. I can’t wait to bring this information back to them after break and tell them what I learned over Christmas in MY classes! image Source
  • Three companies were founded (IEC, Honeywell and Xerox)

Each of these companies have significantly aided in the progression of computer technology over the years:
-The International Electrotechnical Commission was Founded in London and sets the standards for all electronics that are made.
-Honeywell Founded by Mark Honeywell makes mini computers for industrial use aswell as many other “behind the scene” components for autos.
-Xerox: When I was in school we didn’t say “Make a copy of this” we said “Make a Xerox” It was synonymous with the word copy
  • Part of Analytical Engine Working

    Part of Analytical Engine Working
    Responsible: Henry Babbage
The first calculator. It was not complete at this point, it was just a part of the machine that was working. However it was able to solve simple math problems! I believe the first computers were oversized calculators created for doing difficult computations, so this helped us get to where we are now with a computer in everyone’s pocket!

The type writer is the first draft of writing when it comes to the evolution of computer typing and not hand written notes. Even though this is not an electronic invention, the typewriter was the gateway to how we now press a key and the letters show up on the screen.
