How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

By j6brett
  • Blogger

    Blogger
We used Blogger as the location for uploading all of our work. Blogger is a good website and is perfect for what we had to use it for but it occasionally wouldn't work. It is also a website that the college system can block if it wants to, this is unfortunate as parts of my blog were blocked due to the drug related themes in some of the music videos that I analysed.
  • Google

    Google
I used Google a lot as it is a very useful and reliable search engine.
  • Wikipedia

    Wikipedia
I used Wikipedia to reseach some of the artists, videos and directors that I focused on in my research.
  • Bing

    Bing
I used Bing occasionally as it is the automatic search engine at my college, I prefer Google though s Bing's results can be very varied and unreliable.
  • nabil.com

    nabil.com
This website was very useful as it had lots of Nabil's work on it and much of it relates to my project, it's useful that his work is accessible here as much of it is not on YouTube. The only bad things about this website are the fact that often struggles to load as it tries to load lots of videos at the same time, the other problem is that you can not embed videos from the website to your blog so I had to just create a hyperlink to the website.
  • YouTube

    YouTube
I used YouTube lots throughout this project, I used it to find the music videos that I analysed, as well as interviews with artists and directors and then when I was onto the construction stages I used YouTube as a location to store the various edits and test uploads that I created. YouTube is a very good website and is very reliable, however some videos may not be trustworthy as anybody can upload a video but as I only relied on videos such as interviews and music videos I was able to trust it.
  • Tube Chop

    Tube Chop
Tube Chop is the website that I used to cut down sections of YouTube videos before uploading them to my blog. This is a very good and useful website but 'chopping' the YouTube videos is extremely time consuming and slightly awkward.
  • Premier Pro (Adobe CC)

    Premier Pro (Adobe CC)
This was the programme that we used to edit all of the filmed work that we did, Premier Pro is useful but has lots of problems for example it would frequently crash, fail to load and freeze. When Premier Pro was working though it was very good and simple to use but this normally wouldn't last long as I frequently had to reset the programme due to elements not working and Premier Pro removing elements of the settings without me telling it to.
  • Samsung Micro SD Card

    Samsung Micro SD Card
I used my micro SD card for storing my videos and photographs throughout the project. The micro SD card also had a good storage size which made it very useful and appropriate.
  • Samsung Micro SD Adapter

    Samsung Micro SD Adapter
I had to use adapter to turn my micro SD into a regular SD so that it could be used in the cameras that we had access to.
  • SanDisk Cruzer Edge Memory Stick

    SanDisk Cruzer Edge Memory Stick
I used my memory stick as my primary location for storing/accessing my files throughout the whole of the project.
  • Camera (Cannon 700D, 600D & 70D)

    Camera (Cannon 700D, 600D & 70D)
I used cameras a lot in the coursework, I obviously used them for filming my music video but I also used them for the '20 Questions' task we did which taught us a lot about how to use the camera for different levels of zoom and shot types. The cameras we had access to were very good and reliable but we had to book them out ahead of time.
  • Apple IPhone 5S

    Apple IPhone 5S
I used my IPhone during my coursework multiple times, an example of this is that I downloaded my music video edits onto my phone so that when I reshot elements of my music video I could easily see which parts needed to be reshot as well as using the video to make sure that I was in time to the music. I also used it to film the footage for my slow-motion and time lapse experiments as they were not going to be used in my video so did not to be as good quality.
  • Microsoft Power Point

    Microsoft Power Point
I used Microsoft Power Point to create my treatment as I knew that Power Point is a very good way to convey information and is very reliable. I am also familiar with the programme so was confident that I could reach my desired result through using it.
  • SlideShare

    SlideShare
I used SlideShare to upload the Power Point I made for my treatment. SlideShare is very useful as it is a convenient and clear way to present your Power Point presentations online.
  • LinkedIn

    LinkedIn
I had to create a LinkedIn account to use SlideShare, I did not like this as it took a very long time and the LinkedIn website kept crashing. I also keep getting emails from them which is very annoying.
  • Prezi

    Prezi
I used Prezi to present my audience profile, I think that Prezi is a good programme but it can be quite awkward and time consuming to achieve your goals on it sometimes. The final product is usualy very good though.
  • Microsoft Word

    Microsoft Word
I used Microsoft Word quite a lot in my work, for example when I had to use release forms and risk analysis forms. Word is a very reliable programme and can be used for many things. I have used Word a lot so knew exactly how to do what I wanted which was very helpful.
  • Adobe PDF

    Adobe PDF
I used Adobe PDF to save my Microsoft Word documents so that I could upload them straight to Blogger without using a programme such as Scribd which I did not find reliable. The only downside to this was that you had to save the file as a word document first which meat you ended up having multiple copies of each file.
  • Snipping Tool

    Snipping Tool
I used the snipping tool when I needed to upload a section of a word document but did not want to turn he whole page into an image as much of it was blank, an example of using this was when I needed to cut out my casting post. A good thing about the snipping tool is that it saves the files as .jpg files straight away, this makes it very convenient and easy.
  • Photoshop

    Photoshop
I used Photoshop a lot while making my digipak as I find Photoshop very reliable and easy to use/navigate. The extremely wide range of tools such as 'Smudge' and 'Gradient' came in very useful while I was designing my work, especially for the sections with photos and the parts where I made the colour from the back cover leak onto the other panels. Photoshop also came in very useful for designing elements of my poster and designing my insert/booklet.
  • InDesign

    InDesign
I used InDesign for some elements of laying out my digipak and poster but mainly used Photoshop as I think that it is much more reliable, versatile and easy to use. I did use InDesign to finish my booklet, however.
  • Apple IPod Nano (7th Generation)

    Apple IPod Nano (7th Generation)
I linked my IPod to a Bluetooth speaker during parts of my filming to try and keep in time to the music as I had may problems with the lip sync being much faster than the song.
  • Bluetooth Portable Speaker

    Bluetooth Portable Speaker
Used with the IPod Nano - further explanation is given under that heading. This speaker was very reliable and loud, it also had a very long battery life which made it very good for this task.
  • Microsoft One Drive

    Microsoft One Drive
I used Microsoft One Drive as a secondary place to store my files so that if I lost anything I would still have access to my work. Microsoft One Drive is veryreliable and is very fast.
  • Time Toast

    Time Toast
Time Toast is the website that I used to answer this question, it is useful but it is extremely difficult to use as it contains many glitches in its typing elements, for example it will often miss out a letter that you have typed or randomly start typing in a different place. Theses glitches made using the website extremely time consuming (for example I've had to correct mistakes this website has made about 15 times just while typing this paragraph), the 500 character limit is also restrictive.
