Hokie/Heelotia Cultural Interaction

  • As of now

New Zealand has split into 2 contries, Hokia and Heelotia, after a huge civil war. Most of the population has relocated into a small area on their seperate islands. Most of the Hokian live in what was once the Hawkes Bay/ Kaweka Range area, and most of the Heelotian live in what was once the Canturbury Plains.
  • The first step

100 years after the civil war, leaders from each community, the High Hokie and the High Heelot, met on a neutral island between the 2 countries. Their meeting involves dropping both their social norms in order to effectivly communicate. A set of social norms are set for interacting with those from one country that visit the other.
  • The Comprimise

After 6 days, the leaders agree on a greeting. The greeting involves waving your right hand the other person, then standing facing each other. Questions involving personal likes/dislikes and statisitcs are asked to trade red tickits. Questions would be like, Do you eat you favorite food 5 times a month? Correct assuptions would be answered by touching your left hand to your left shoulder, and no by touching your right hand to your right shoulder.
  • Immigration

It was also decided that those who wish to immigrate to a neighboring country must completly assimilate to the other culture, as both cultures feel their is better. The leader felt that any attempt to combine the cultures further would result in huge backlash.
