The Turing Machine
Turing MachineIn 1936 Alan Turing created an abstract computer model. It was able to perform logical operations. It was able to define a mechanical procedure and to read, write or erase symbols that are written on squares of an infinite paper tape. These is todays RAM.

Harvard Mark I
The Harvard Mark I was able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. It was the first automatic digital calculator in the United States and the largest electromechanical calculator ever built.

The UNIVAC
The UNIVAC (= Universal Automatic Computer) was the first successful electronic digital computer. It operated on a magnetic tape in contrast to its competitors that ran on punch cards.

COBOL
Grace Hopper develops the first computer language that is called COBOL (=Common Business-Oriented Language). She believed that the language should be close to english instead of an machine code.

Birth of the GUI
Xerox designed a personal computer named the Alto. These computer inlcuded a graphical user interface (GUI) that makes it easier to interact with the computer. -
The Altair 8800
The Altair 8800 was the first personal computer. The computer didn't have a keyboard and a monitor and was therefore not user friendly. However, more than 4,000 orders were placed in the first three month.

The first Apple computer was dabbled by Steve Wozniak. When Steve Jobs liked the prototype and gave some suggestions. They started to work together on the Apple I and released it in 1976. In the same year they formed the Apple Computer Company.

IBM is a computer that is a mainframe computer that is mainly used by large corporations. However, in 1981 they introduced their first personal computer. The computer could process information faster, play games and process text.

Mosaic
In 1993 the first web browser called Mosaic was introduced. The browser increased the use of the internet about 350%. It is also a client for earlier protoculs such as FTP.
