Emperor Alexios I contacts Pope Urban II
The Turks threatened to invade Byzantine and take Constantinople so the Emperor Alexios I contacted Pope Urban II to help. Urban took this opportunity to Christian Europe as he fought to take back the "Holy Land" -

Fourth Crusade
The Fourth Crusade had a new strategy for the purpose of winning back the city Jerusalem and that was to attack Egypt. Egypt was the base of Muslim power. That plan fell through so then the ended up going in a different direction. That was to the greatest Christian city called Constantinople, the capital of Byzantine. -
