    Students excluded with disabilities from public schools
    Between the time of 1850-1950 classes that were called special had people trained to care for those students with disabilities. Special education was offered in larger states only. As the teachers started to realize that certain children had more needs then others, (disabilities).
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    A case with school segregation in Topeka, Kansas. This case was what ended legal segregation in public schools. Fourteenth Amendment violated prohibiting equal protection to anybody within the jurisdiction.
  • Department of Public Welfare v. Haas

    Department of Public Welfare v. Haas
    Richard an inmate of Lincoln State school was the defendant in this case, defined as an incompetent person. The law of Illinois did not require free education for special needs children.   • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act
    A national law for education and to have equal opportunity for all the students no matter their specialty. This act was signed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson which back then was a civil rights law before signed by him.   • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    This act was enacted in 1975 but was part of an amendment enacted in 1966. This act was done so that parents/ guardians can decide about their child with disabilities education, make choices and defend their case. Also that students should be in a smaller classroom to get the same opportunity to interact with other children that may also be non impaired students.
  • Individuals with disabilities Education Act

    Individuals with disabilities Education Act
    Law created to make public education free for those children with disabilities and give services to those who need it. Due to this law, schools are to evaluate kids/ students that may have disabilities at no cost. This law also gives parents/ legal guardians a voice in their special needs child's education.
  • Learning Disabilities Foundation

    Learning Disabilities Foundation
    Public charity to provide funds for education and research for children as well as adults with learning disabilities. Making public awareness programs to advance peoples understanding to a person with learning disabilities needs. Developing methods of prevention and treatment to these individuals.
  • American with Disabilities Act

    American with Disabilities Act
    Prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities everywhere, (Life, jobs, school, etc). This law was created for these individuals with special needs or disabilities to receive the same right/ opportunities that a person who did not have anything would receive.
  • Johnson Scholarship Foundation

    Johnson Scholarship Foundation
    This foundation has helped people with disabilities to receive grants at Florida's State University in about 12 campuses. They also fund to a few others not located in Florida itself. It also makes grants to organizations who help/support students with learning disabilities. The foundation has also created a portfolio to be able to help these individuals with a job or career path.

    Reinforcement of Elementary and Secondary Education Act. To close all gaps for achievement for all children, giving them a fair and equal opportunity to get the highest quality of education. Students are to be tested in 2 areas, reading and math in third to eighth grade and once in highs school.
