    Supreme Court ruled that separating children in public schools on because of race is unconstitutional. It started the end of legalized racial segregation in the schools of the United States, overruling the "separate but equal" principle.

  • The Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    ESEA lets state programs for schools who want to help students academic achievement of struggling learners and for students who live with disability, mobility problems, learning difficulties, poverty, or transience, or who need to learn English.

  • Handicapped Children’s Early Education Assistance Act

    President Johnson signed into law an act to aid in special education. Congress approved an action exclusively for the education of all the handicapped without attaching it to any other legislation. This law the establishment almost 100 programs to develop successful approaches in assisting preschool aged disabled students.

  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act

    The goal of this act is to provide an education that meets a child's unique needs and prepares the child for further education, employment, and independent living. The second purpose is to protect the rights of both children with disabilities and their parents.
