    This council was formed in the United States and its purpose was to further education of children with disabilities. This council was a vital part in advocating for the welfare and needs of exceptional students. It promoted research and allowed education to be advanced.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Brown vs. Board of Education is a significant legal case that opened the doors for ending discriminations. Racial discrimination was lowering because of this case, which allowed discrimination for individuals with disabilities to lower too. Special education was able to be an asset without being discriminated against.

    Autism Society of America is created
    This society was created in hopes of bettering the lives of individuals with autism. It was also founded to help the families of individuals on the autism spectrum. The organization was a major advocator for the welfare and rights of individuals with autism.

    Introduction of Special Olympics
    The Special Olympics is a sporting event held for individuals with disabilities to perform in. It was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and it was held first in Chicago. This event included sports and recreational activities for individuals with disabilities to compete in.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    In 1975, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act is passed. This act was created and enforced to help ensure that there were options for free and acceptable public education for children with disabilities. This act was later renamed Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

    The UDL was implemented to show a design plan to ensure that children and individuals with disabilities would receive the proper education in the classroom. Individuals with disabilities may have diverse learning needs, which may require them to need a different method of teaching brought upon them. The UDL would work towards accommodating these needs for the individuals.

    This act required public schools to educate any and every individual, including individuals with disabilities. This act worked to hold the schools accountable for the progress that is made when educating the students. This act increased the federal role when it came to accountability on the public schools end.
