  • Brown V. Board of Education

    Brown V. Board of Education
    This was a Supreme Court ruling that put an end to racial segregation in public schools. It found the “Separate but Equal” doctrine unconstitutional because black children were being taught in poor conditions, compared to white children who were given access to more teachers and other resources in schools. This ruling also helped boost the civil rights movement.

     Ed for All Handicapped Children Act (EHA)
    The Education for All Handicapped Children Act allowed for children with any type of disability to have equal access in public schools. Under this act, schools were told to assess these children and come up with the best plan possible to help them succeed in a normal classroom setting. The choices made for these students must be reasonable and fair to them.

    This act prevents adults with disabilities from being discriminated against. This means discrimination in the workplace, transportation services, and all other public places is prohibited. This act also provides accommodations for these individuals in public areas.
  • National Autism Association

    National Autism Association
    The NAA supports the autism community through advocacy, research, education, and direct tools. The NAA educates service professionals, first responders, and families on how to care for those with autism. They also give physical tools to schools and families for additional assistance.
  • Assistive Technology Act of 2004

    Assistive Technology Act of 2004
    This act gives students with disabilities access to any tech they may need in order to be successful and equal to those without special needs. This act also extends to those in the workplace and everyday life. These individuals have access to a wide range of items such as speech recognition devices, large computer keyboards, magnifiers, talking ATMs, and ramps.

    This act guarantees free and quality education to those with disabilities. Additionally, it ensures that the child's teacher is teaching them in the best and most effective way possible.     This act guarantees good-quality education for all children no matter the circumstance. With this act in place, parents can make suggestions on the education plans for schools within their respective state. Lastly, If a school is underperforming, the state must come up with a solution to improve performance.
