History of educational Technology in language education
the use of technology in education has provided students and teachers with an unlimited number of options for classroom english learning. when you consider the history of technology in education, there are some very interesting facts that have led us to where we are today. -
Radio
The early 20th century saw the development of radio broadcasting, which quickly made its way into the realm of teaching. Radio broadcasting makes it possible to listen to the lectures, talks, discussions and seminar proceedings of educational interest in which renowned authors, educationalist, leading scholars and other important personalities may participate. Such contact provides immense educational and psychological value to the students. -
The Overhead Projector
During the 1930s, the first overhead projector was introduced to the classroom prior to being widely used by the military during world war 2. After its introduction, the overhead projector became widely used in the classroom which provided teachers with a more convenient alternative to blackboard. -
The Photocopier
by the last year of the 1930s, xerox introduced the first photocopier machine. This helped teachers to create copies of classroom materials easier and faster than the mimeograph machine. -
Headphones
In the early 1950s, headphones were introduced to the classroom and were installed in listening stations. By listening to audio tapes through the headphones, students could easily review lessons and reinforce concepts to be learned. -
Liquid Paper
It was also during the 1960s that liquid paper was introduced and widely used with the typewriter. Students who took typing class or used the typewriter to complete assignments and research papers could dip the brush into the liquid and then apply it to the paper correct typing error. -
The Computer
In the early 1980s. IBM (International business machines) come out with the first personal computer. The computer began to be used for a variety of learning purposes an as eventual replacament for the typewriter when creating and completing reports and assignments. -
The Internet
In the early mid-1990s, the internet was made available to the general public. It began to be used in education.
students started using the internet to find various studies, research resources and help with their homework. -
3-d printing
The first documented iterations of 3D printing can be traced back to the early 1980s in Japan. In 1981, Hideo Kodama was trying to find a way to develop a rapid prototyping system. It helps students to reach the necessary materials in the classroom. -
The Interactive Whiteboard
By the late 1990s, the blackboard was gradually getting replaced with an interactive whiteboard. When first introduced, the whiteboard consisted of a whitescreen, computer and projector. But nevertheless , it was gradually starting to make its way into classrooms around the world. -
Google collaboration apps
Founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google is famous for its collaborative efforts, and is continually recognized for its innovative corporate culture and work environment. It is a system that has been developed for students to use some tools and interact with their teachers in a virtual way and it has been used quite a lot in recent years. -
tablets
In 2010, Apple released the iPad, the first mass-market tablet to achieve widespread popularity. Thereafter, tablets rapidly rose in ubiquity and soon became a large product category used for personal, educational and workplace applications. -
English Lab
A language laboratory is a dedicated space that contains technology (mainly devices that allow the recording and playback of sound for listening and speaking practice) for english learning. -
