History of Education

  • Period: 25,000 BCE to

    Oral Communication

The primary communication form is spoken with humans. And it was the earliest to be used in education (Bates, 2015). We used folklore, songs, and historical tales to pass the knowledge to the next generations(Fernando Arendain, 2015). We can infer that although oral communication is the oldest, it is still used primarily.
  • Period: 105 BCE to

    Written Communication

The invention of paper in china dates back to 105 BC (SMARTEduEMEA, 2011c). There were a lot of forms from books invented after another such as clay tablets, metal tablets and papyrus until they were proven unpractical, and there came the parchment which was made from animal skins (Fernando Arendain, 2015). The invention of the printed pressing 14th century was a game changer because it made written information much more available (Bates, 2015b).

Many changes that occurred in the 20th century ( in technology, politics, philosophy, science, and economy) had effects on education. (Fastiggi, 2022) Inventions were coming and getting replaced with more advanced ones shortly after. There are a lot of technologies that came up in this era that we do not use today or evolved dramatically over the years.
