Their goal was to enable everyone to be able to use a computer instead of just the people who were able to write their own custom software. BASIC become wide spread on micro computers in the mid-1970s and the 1980s. -

Designed in 1967 by Daniel G. Bobrow, Wally Feurzeig, Seymour Papert, and Cynthia Solomon LOGO is widely rembered for how it used turtle graphics. -
