  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner was a slave who wanted to free him and other slaves from slavery. him and over 70 other slaves went to his master's house and killed their whole family. after killing his family, Turner and his crew went around the city to kill about 60 other white people. the crisis was done once white authorities stopped it. Turner hid for about two months until he got caught. he went to court, and the court decided that he needed to get hung, he died on November 11, 1831.
  • The Wilmot Proviso

    The Wilmot Proviso
    David Wilmot was a democrat who proposed a bill that stated "neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist". he made this law so that slavery would be prohibited in all the states that Mexico gained after the Mexican American war. his bill did not pass and it caused a lot of conflicts about slavery. because of this event the conflict between the south and north became way worse.

    This event was a conflict because it was several bills that were discussed to end slavery or to keep it. Because of this bill California was allowed to be a free state, which made the other slaves states not happy. It led to Texas being in debt of 10 million dollars to settle with mexico. the fugitive slave act was also passed, being one of the main conversations in the court. This event did not solve the issue with slavery growing over the country, and separated the south and north even more.

    Uncle Toms Cabin was a book made by Harriet Beecher Stowe. She was an African American who saw slavery firsthand. in the book she explains how a slaves life was like. she wanted people to understand how slavery was such a horrible thing that African Americans had to experience. The book led to many people's opinions about it, and eventually led to the civil war.

    Bleeding Kansas was a battleground for the people who were against slavery, and the people who wanted it to be over. Settlers from the north went to Kansas hoping to get people to be on the antislavery side. Over 200 people have died for fighting against this cause, and a lot of property was destroyed. The conflict here had led the north and south to become bigger enemies than they already were. This event led to the civil war.

    This act created two new states, Nebraska and Kansas. It allowed people to vote either antislavery or to keep slavery. Because of this act it caused the two opposing groups to fight against each other. It also overruled the compromise of 1820. This was an event that led to the civil war.

    This event was a court ruling in 1857 to decide if slavery should be in states. Dred Scott was the slave who went there to sue for his freedom. The court claimed that African Americans could not sue in the court because they were not citizens of the U.S. The supreme court said that the government could not ban slavery in the states. This court case was one of the other many reasons that led to the civil war.

    This event was about an abolitionist, John brown, who took matter in his own hands against slavery. In Harper's Ferry, Virginia he tried to take weapons to take action. He wanted enslaved people to take the weapons and fight for their freedom. Browns Raid did not go as planned and he was caught. He went to court and they sentenced him to death. This was a conflict that led to the civil war.

    Abraham Lincoln was elected president as a republican. He was popular in the north because of his debates with Stephen Douglas. He didn't really have a chance to get votes from the south because he was a republican. Abraham wanted to stop slavery from expanding to other states in the U.S. The south was not happy about this so they decided to leave their states. This event led to the civil war.

    This event was created by eleven Southern states that left the U.S. They Declared themselves to be a new nation. They made a Constitution based on the U.S. Constitution, but it had to have changes to it before they published it. They wanted control over their own government. The Constitution declared that each state was independent, but they still had to allow slavery to happen in them. The delegates chose Jefferson Davis to be the president of the Confederacy. This conflict led to the civil war
