The Belgians have reached Rwanda and have taken controll. The Belgians organize a census, which means an official enumeration of the population, and issue identity cards to every citizen. This is the begining of the seperation between the Tutsi and Hutu tribes. The two diffrent tribes argue which tribe is stronger and better. -

A Hutu rebellion begins against the Tutsis and Belgians.

The Hutu tribes begin terrorizing local citizens by burning houses down, shooting guns in the streets, and threatening to kill people. This is the beginning of the Rwandan massacre, because Hutu tribes begin to collect weapons like shotguns and machetes. Hutu leaders teach their followers how to shoot and how to use machetes. -
The RPF is created in Uganda.

The RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Fron) was created in 1987 by the Tutsi refugee in Uganda, mainly consisting of rebels. the RPF group is a "political" group that now holds allot of power in Rwanda. They have been a part of many fights in Rwanda including the Rwandan Civil War and the Rwandan Genocide. -

the Rwandan Civil War was a conflict between Rwandan citizens and the rebel Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF). The conflict began on 1 October 1990 and ended on 4 August 1993. However some historians say that the war never ended and that the killing of the Rwandan president in 1994 was still apart of the war. -
Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana is killed when his plane is shot out of the sky.

Juvénal Habyarimana was the third President of the Republic of Rwanda, he favored his own ethnic group, the Hutus. On April 6, 1994, he was killed when his airplane, also carrying the President of Burundi, was shot down by a missel from a Tutsi rebel camp. This enraged the Hutu tribe and they seeked revenge. -

After the killing of the Rwandan President, Hutu rebels are enraged by the Tutsi actions. Hutu rebels begin terrorising the streets and killing Tutsi politicians. 8 politicians are killed this day, including many citizens, mostly Tutsi. -
Massacre at the Nyarubuye Roman Catholic Church - thousands of Tutsi are killed, first by grenades and guns and then by machetes and clubs

20,000 civilians are killed while taking refuge in Nyarubuye Roman Catholic Church. Hutu and Tutsi civilians where killed with spears, machetes, clubs, hand grenades and automatic weapons. -
The Kibuye Massacres.

An estimated 12,000 Tutsis are killed after sheltering at the Gatwaro stadium. The stadium was an ideal place to sleep and shelter from the Hutu. Another 50,000 civilians where killed in the hills of Bisesero while trying to escape. Some are even killed in the town's hospital where many wounded civilians sheltered in. -
Approximately 250,000 people flee to neighboring country of Tanzania

250,000 civilians seek refuge in their neighboring country of Tanzania. Most citizens cant afford any form of transportation so, they are forced to walk many mines across the border. However some Hutu men realize that Tutsis are trying to escape, so they ambush many walkers and buses. The cassulties where not so bad compared to other incidents. Many got sofly over to Tanzanian care. -
The RPF takes control of the presidential palace.

RPF members regain controll of the presidential place. they restore somewhat order to the political world but the streets are still controlled by hutu men. The RPF members begin organizing plans and missions to rescue trapped tourists and diffrent countries embasy personell. The U.S.A bring in navy seals to rescue U.S embasy personell from Rwanda. -
The French establish a safe zone inRwanda.

The French finally come to help the trapped citizens in Rwanda. They make a number of safe spots with clinical help and food in the south west corner of Rwanda. For many citizens these safe spots is their only hope for survival. People by the thousands travel to these safespots using the cover of night so hutu men dont see them. These safe zones helped many injured and starving people. -

In mid July 1994 the Tutsi rebels of Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) came from Uganda and stopped the genocide. The UN was utterly useless, they abandoned the Rwandan citizens and hoped someone would clean the mess up. Thanks to the RPF the genocide is almost over. Today there are still some killings and destrucion in rwanda but not as bad as it was in 1994.
