A "space race" would ensue between the United States and the USSR in which these nations competed against each other to see who can advance furthest in terms of space exploration and travel. The race was initiated with the Soviet Union launching the Sputnik in October, 1957. The U.S. would launch their own space program, NASA, and would send the first man to the moon through the Apollo program in 1969.

During the 1960s and 1970s, many young people drifted away from traditional values and morals and adopted new ones in which opposed those established by society. The epidemic was large and it was concluded that it is sexually transmitted; this led to discrimination towards those infected. The fight against HIV/AIDS began under the administration of Ronald Reagan, in which he invest federal money into research for a treatment.
