Proclamation From Pope Urban III
Pope Urban III appealed for help becuase the Turks attacked the Christian Byzantine Empire. He offered papal indugence which is when the pope blesses all who die for their religion and their sins are absolvede before they die. -

Peter the Hermit
Peter the Hermit was a famous leader of the FIrst Crusade who led common people to fight. When he reached Coustan, he led his army across the Euphrates river. He was told to wait for backup but went ahead and almost all of army were killed by Turks. -

Bishop Adhemar of Le Py
The only person who could express any kind of overall authority was the Bishop Adhemar of Le Py. He and his army arrived in Byzantium in 1097 and attakced the Imperial Palace at the Bicherae. The first target was the city, Nicaea which had fallen to the Turks 10 years before. The crusaders' attack was asissted by Byzantine troops and Nicaea surrendered. -

Middle of 1096
The crusaders headed towards the Antioch and split into two groups. The first group forced Turks to flee after a 6 hour battle. The second group ambushed VanGuard near the city Dorylaeum. The journey across Andtolia was harsh with almost no food or water. It was extremely cold and many died along the way. -

Siege of Antioch
The city of Antioch was huge and well defended, it was impossible to fully suround it. So instead they blocked the gate and it stayed that way throughout the winter and the beginning of 1098. They ran short of food and many died of stravation and diseases. Bishop Adheman was one of the people that died. Some fled home. -

Kerbogha,Altabltg of Mosul
Crusaders fled into Antioch from Kerbogha,Altabeg of Mosul's army where they were trapped. While they were in Antioch. Peter Bartholomew had a vision of Christ and St. Andrew. They told him that the lance that pierced Jesus' side during the crucifixion was buried under the high alter of St. Peter's church. They looked under the high alter and it was found. With new hope they fought their way out and won and gained Antioch. -

Battle at Jerusalem
The journey to Jerusalem after winning Antioch was uneventful. Before the crusaders entered the hloy land, a vsion of Bishop Adhemar told them to humble themselves. So, the crusaders entered the Holy Land barefoot and marching. They forced their way into Jersalem, killing everyone they saw. the burned the main synagogue, killing all of the Jews taking refuge inside of it. The city of Jersalem surrendered.
