He wanted to find a west water route to Asia/India. He found the New World but he didnt know it was the New World. Brought back gold and other goods. Its important because if he hadnt discovered them no one would've of and the New World wouldnt of been discovered at that point of time. -

The purpose of the journey was to study the land of the north. Fray Marcos told of seeing a city filed with gold larger the mexico city. Conquistador coronado is sent to find this golden city. -

To find the 7 cities of gold. He searched for Quivera and Cibola. Importance was not to go to texas becasue the land offers nothing for the spanish. No gold harsh land and some difficult indians.
