    Following the decision in 1954 that social segregation was unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, an atmosphere of change was primed, and this included educational movements as well.

    In 1960’s films where shown options about career counseling, job analysis, job development, and placement services for people with disabilities.

    vocational rehabilitation act was placed

    In 1973 a vocational rehabilitation act was placed but soon after President Nixon signed a law known as the rehabilitation act to replace the vocational rehab act which placed emphasis on services to those with the severe disabilities. Before 1975 only one in five children were accommodated for their disability.

    Civil rights movement was at its peak in active movements

    By 1975 the civil rights movement was at its peak in active movements which included the school integration and various demonstrations for equality. President John F. Kennedy as well as President Lyndon B. Johnson placed some interest funds for research for children with disabilities which led up to the formation of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act.

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA now in effect

    In 1990 congress authorized changed from Education for All Handicapped Children Act EHA to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA which under this new act placed more focus on the individual, as opposed to a condition that individual may have. This law now which is currently in effect.
  • My take on things

    This key events were meaningful because they demonstrate the social and historical changes made in order to achieve change for education. The reason for these choice on my part was because they were easy to understand and chronologically broke down how a means met its end for the Individuals with Disabilities education Act that currently stands today. As it states it focuses on the individual not their condition they have.
