William Henry Harrison took military action and led America to victory against the Native Americans. Americans discovered the Indians were working together with the British as allies. This event later led into the War of 1812. -
The War of 1812
The War of 1812 was between the United States and Britain. America desired to maintain its position as a neutral trading nation during the series of Anglo-French wars but the British leaders showed little interest in accommodating their needs. In addition, impressment was another reason America decided to go to war with Britain. This ended with the Treaty of Ghent that returned relations between the United States and Britain to a prewar status. -
The Missouri Compromise of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was a bargain that contained three parts. One, Congress would admit Missouri as a slave state. Two, Congress would admit Maine as a free state, which would maintain balance between the number of free and slave states. The third was the Louisiana Purchase would be divided into slave and free zones. -

This Act granted the president authority to begin treaty negotiations that would give American Indians land in the West in exchange for their lands east of the Mississippi. -

The Mexican American War
President Polk decides to annex Texas into the union, which quickly turns events leading America to many battles known as the Mexican American War. The war starts when Mexicans attack American soldiers on American soil which results in America declaring war on Mexico The war ends when Mexico signs the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which gives the United States Mexican territory. Mexico lost one-third of its land including California. -
The Discovery of Gold
Gold was discovered on John Sutter's land which brought many foreigners to America. This increased and encouraged expansion. -
The Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 was an assemblage of bills passed which managed to keep the promises of the Missouri Compromise. The Missouri Compromise separated states and the Louisiana Purchase into slave and free zones.
