  • Neutral Ground Agreement

    Neutral Ground Agreement
    General Nemecio Salcedo proposed creating a neutral area between the Sabine River and Natchitoches. This treaty was signed on November 5th, 1806, at the US Army camp at Sabine by General Wilkinson, and Inspector Francisco Viana. (107-108)

    On September 16th 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo delivered a speech in front of his church and declared (Death to bad government). While this wasn't a form of declaration of Mexican Independence, many took it as such and military units would end up revolting as well. (116-117)

    On March 17th 1811, the Casas Revolt lasted only 3 months, with many officers scurrying to convert back their loyalty. In the aftermath Hidalgo was executed on March 21st of the same year. (118-119)

    In August 1812 Gutierrez de Lara's expedition crossed the Sabine River. His "Republican Army of the North" supported Mexican independence and would end up successfully taking San Antonio on April 1st 1813. (119-120)
  • Battle of Medina

    On August 18th 1813, the Battle of Medina took place. Arredondo's royalists would fight the Republican Army of the North and it would end in a disaster for the rebels and have them pushed northward. (122)

    The War of 1812 caused the Spanish controlled Florida to become an area full of native Americans and others who hated the United States. In February 1819 US Secretary of State John Quincy Adams and Ambassador Luis de Onis signed a compromise where Spain could keep Texas, but would have to give up Florida. (128)

    The Plan of Iguala was signed on February 24th 1821 by royalist Agustin de Iturbide and rebel Vicente Guerrero announced the freedom of Mexico from Spain. (129)
