  • VHS Portable Camera

    VHS Portable Camera
My arrival from the hospital is recorded on grainy VHS tape. My parents recorded my older brothers' reactions to their new baby sister. The camera was a hand-me-down from a family member, who reported that it had cost her over $1000. Image from eBay.
  • TV a Major Part of Family Life

TV a Major Part of Family Life
I remember hiding in the kitchen, running circles around the kitchen island, while a horror movie played in the family room. Most evenings the TV belonged to the adults, and early morning TV shows like Sesame Street belonged to me. Image from eBay.
  • My Beloved Cassette Player

    My Beloved Cassette Player
I was given an old audio cassette player that I used to record songs I liked. I recorded songs off of the radio and TV. One song, a cover of Little Eva's "The Locomotion," I recorded off of the end credits of a children's movie. I played it over and over until my brother hid the tape in his room. • My First Boombox

    My First Boombox
My dad and stepmother bought me my first boombox and my first CD: a Shrek Christmas album. That little boombox still works today, even after being left out in the rain a couple times. Image from tapeheads.net
  • First Computer Class

    First Computer Class
I was around 8 years old when I had my first computer class. All I can remember is a cow pattern on the computer tower and hating the rubber pads on the keys to hide the letters. Image from Clubic.com
  • First Experience with Social Media

    First Experience with Social Media
When I was 14, we moved into my grandmother's and she had a computer with internet access. It was when I discovered that computers had a function beyond typing papers, which I had to go to the public library to do. I discovered computers could be fun! I put a lot of work creating the perfect Myspace profile page. Image from intelligentspectator.net
  • My First Smart Phone

    My First Smart Phone
My second year into my undergrad at Marshall University, I walked to Pullman Square and bought my first ever cell phone. It was a Samsung Galaxy S6. I remember being asked to turn off my cell phone in the theater by another patron. I was just way too excited to put it down, plus I did not know how to turn down the brightness. I'm still not as tech savvy as most, but I'm catching up! Image from eBay.
