    Birth
    I was born into a poor family in Germany. My childhood was difficult. I taught myself to read by sneaking around schools during the day. I had 3 brothers and 2 sisters when I was 5. Though a sickness came upon us and only 3 survived. My 2 younger brothers and me. I started working when I was 7 for we needed money. Finally my parents decided we were gonna escape becuase there was only 1 church and we didn't believe it.

    Journey to America
    Me and my family scrambled onto a boat as many others were doing. At last we were heading to America. My being only 10 years old it was amazing! It was a long time on sea and I wanted to run. Then finally we saw Lady Liberty! We had come to the opening of Ellis Island. We made it to America.

    Money Troubles
    We had just gotten to America a year ago. Then our money became very slim. We never had much money but now it was even worse. We barely ever atte so that we could keep the house. My dad and my mom were always looking for jobs in the newspaper. I would have to but my parents thought I was to young.

    Faboulous New Year
    I was somewhere on the street.Then everyone started to count down. Then this ball of light started to drop. I was pretty excited and then finally, Happy New Year! Down the road a couple years I reliazed there was a new tradition.

  • Fire! Fire!

    Fire! Fire!
    I work on the 7th floor of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. It was about time to leave so I was packing up. Then I girl screamed fire and all I knew to do was to run. I tried not to push but so many girls were trying get out. Someone pushed me and I fell. Some girls stepped on me before I coul get up. I got to the street. When the fire was out I saw the building burned.

  • War!

    War!
    America decided to join the war. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to go back to Germany with my husband or should I stay. If I lrft I could help my family survive the war. If I stay in America people could turn against me. Also if I went over our ship would probbly get sunk. What am I to do?
