Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin so that there would be a more efficient way to separate cotton from it's seed. He wanted to speed up the process of cleaning cotton in one day's amount of work. The Cotton Gin cleaned about 55 punds of cotton a day comopared to about 1 pound of cotton cleaned in one day by a slave. -
