El Capitan High Schools first day of school! First school in the Merced Union High School District to be textbook free and go to a "one-to-web" initiative. The device that has been choosen for students not bringing their own device is the Samsung Chromebook XE303C12-A01US. -
Implementation of Urban Essentials
Urban Essentials Urban Essentials is a program that focuses on restoring relationships that are broken when there are student discipline issues. The focus is to correct behaviors in order to keep students in classes and school rather than punish students for misbehavior. By focusing on the relationship pieces you build the relationship piece that is essential for rigor or relevance to mean anything to a student. -
Google Sites
How to Create A Google Site for your ClassroomIn order to best support all students, every teacher uses Google Sites to host all of their class materials. This enables students anytime and anywhere access to the curriculum. Allows teacher to "flip" their classrooms and use classtime to collaborate on critical thinking skills/projects. -
Learning Management System
Learning Management SystemA school-wide LMS is adopted and integrated within the SIS that allows ease of student enrollment and analytics that will drive focused student intervention. The LMS will house all of the teachers curriculum and allow teachers to use the data to focus individualized instruction. -
Live Classes Recorded
Teachers will record all classes that will allow them to put their daily class into their LMS which will allow for students that are unable to attend to not miss the days class. Students that struggle with retention of material will have the opportunity to review material taught that day at their own pace to allow the student to have more control of their learning. Teachers are then able to do reteach lessons with focused groups of students that struggled with the concepts. -
ADA- Objectives met vs seat-time (if not sooner)
ADA funding models change. Instead of looking at seat time as a measurement for ADA, the state looks at an objectives met calculation. This allows schools to now allow more flexibility within their seat-time attendance models. Schools now focus hard on students not meeting learning objectives/milestones and develop very specific interventions for that student independent of a time frame. -

Cloud Schools
With new ADA models, El Capitan changes its model to be more flexed like a college campus. Students control much more of the pace of their learning and see teachers as guides to hlpe them along the learning of their classes. Students collaborate and create to solve complex problems. A real community is created within the halls of the campus and reach out further into the community, as adults are encouraged to take cloud classes as well
