Frederick Griffith's Discovery
In this year, Frederick Grifith teamed up with Oswald Avery and discovered what the key role in DNA heredity is. He also proved that pneumonae could transfer from one DNA cell to others. -
Oswald Avery's Discovery
In this year, Oswald Avery discovered that the genetic information of a cell is found in the DNA. Scientists had previously believed that this information was found in the proteins. -
Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase's Discovery
Hershey and Chase came up with the idea that DNA is needed for viral respiration. Using radioactive isotopes they were able to prove this idea. -
Watson and Crick Discovery
Watson and Crick were both very interested in the structure of DNA. The two pooled their ideas and proposed the double-helix which we still use today. -
Erwin Chargaff's Discovery
Erwin Chargaff discovered that by introducing formic acid hydrolysis to simulate liberation, to demonstrate the absobrtion zones he found that this could simulate DNA. Prior to this discovery, he actually read Oswald Avery's report. -
Rosalind Franklin's Discovery
Rosalind Franklin was a key person in the discovery of the double-helix although she doesn't get much credit for it. When the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize was announced she was left off of the award.
