William Burrough publishes 'The Naked Lunch'
In 1959, the novel 'The Naked Lunch' was published by William Burrough. The story is a narration of a junkie 'William Lee' and his journey through his escape from the police and him trying to get his next fix of drugs. The novel spirals through time and space and takes the junkie through a series of different places to a point where in the end he does not know what his reality is. Perhaps a twist because he was tripping on too many drugs or a case of being stuck in a cyber world? -
William Gibson's book 'Burning Chrome' published
Bruning Chrome was published, a story where the term 'cyberspace' was allegedly used for the first time. Th novel tells the story of two hackers who hack systems for profit and the adventure that unfolds. -
The movie 'Blade Runner' released
Director Ridley Scott released Blade Runner in 1982, a movie in cyberpunk future. Its the year 2019 and Deckard, a Blade Runner, a cop who terminates replicants (human clones used to serve in the colonies outside Earth) is forced to re-enter the force when six replicants escape from an offworld colony to Earth. -
Bruce Bethke uses the word 'Cyberpunk' in his story
Bruce Bethke publishes a story called 'Cyberpunk' in the science fiction magazine 'Amazing' in November, 1983. This is allegedly the first time the term cyberpunk was used.
