COMPUTERS OVER THE YEARS

  • THE FIRST COMPUTER

    THE FIRST COMPUTER
I chose this milestom because this was the first computer. Konrad Zuse (1910-1995) was a construction engineer for the Henschel Aircraft Company in Berlin, Germany at the beginning of WWII. Konrad Zuse earned the semiofficial title of "inventor of the modern computer."In 1936, Zuse made a mechanical calculator called the Z1, the first binary computer. Zuse used it to explore several groundbreaking technologies in calculator development.
  • ATANASOFF-BERRY COMPUTER (ABC)

    ATANASOFF-BERRY COMPUTER (ABC)
I chose this milestone because it was another important computer and the size was interesting. The Atanasoff computer was approximately the size of a large desk. It had approximately 270 vacuum tubes. Two hundred and ten tubes controlled the arithmetic unit, 30 tubes controlled the card reader and card punch, and the remaining tubes helped maintain charges in the condensers.
  • THE FOTRAN COMPUTER

    THE FOTRAN COMPUTER
I chose this milestone because this was when computer programming language was invented. FORTRAN, in full Formula Translation, computer-programming language created in 1957 by John Backus that shortened the process of programming and made computer programming more accessible.
The creation of FORTRAN, which debuted in 1957, marked a significant stage.
  • THE COMPUTER MOUSE

    THE COMPUTER MOUSE
I chose this milestone because this guy invented the mouse. Douglas Engelbart changed the way computers worked, from specialized machinery that only a trained scientist could use, to a user-friendly tool that almost anyone can use. He invented or contributed to several interactive, user-friendly devices such as the mouse.
  • THE WORLD'S FIRST MICROPROCESSOR

    THE WORLD'S FIRST MICROPROCESSOR
I chose this milestone because this computer was the world's first microprocessor. In November, 1971, a company called Intel publicly introduced the world's first single chip microprocessor, the Intel 4004 (U.S. Patent #3,821,715), invented by Intel engineers Federico Faggin, Ted Hoff, and Stanley Mazor. After the invention of integrated circuits revolutionized computer design, the only place to go was down -- in size that is.
  • INVENTION OF THE FLOPPY DISK

    INVENTION OF THE FLOPPY DISK
I chose this milestone because it was a big change for computers. In 1971, IBM completed the first "memory disk", as it was called then, or the "floppy disk" as it is known today. The first floppy was an 8" plastic disk coated with magnetic iron oxide. Data was written to and read from the disk's surface. The nickname "floppy" came from it's flexibility, because you could bend it.
  • THE FIRST COMPUTER WITH A GRAPHIC INTERPHASE

THE FIRST COMPUTER WITH A GRAPHIC INTERPHASE
I chose this milestone because it was the first Mac computer. Introduced in January 1984, this Macintosh didn't have a model number - it was simply the Macintosh. There was no name on the front. Early 128Ks simply said "Macintosh" on the back. The Macintosh was destined to change the face of computing forever - it not only created the Mac look and feel, it also inspired forthcoming versions of Microsoft Windows and several other windowing interfaces.
  • MICROSOFT WINDOWS INVENTED

    MICROSOFT WINDOWS INVENTED
I chose this milestone because Microsoft is a really big program. Officially released on November 20, 1985, this 16-bit OS that cost less than 1MB in overall is Microsoft’s very first operating system that allows multi tasking with graphical user interface on PC platform that runs on MS-DOS 5.0.
  • THE IOMEGA ZIP DISK IS RELEASED

THE IOMEGA ZIP DISK IS RELEASED
I chose this milestone because it held so many megabytes for that time. The Iomega Zip Disk is released. The initial Zip system allowed 100MB to be stored on a cartridge roughly the size of a 3 ½ inch floppy disk. Later versions increased the capacity of a single disk from 100Mbytes to 2GB.
  • THE IPHONE 4S IS INVENTED

    THE IPHONE 4S IS INVENTED
I chose this milestone because the iPhone is one of the best phones out there. The iPhone 4S retains almost all of the same design features as its predecessor, the iPhone 4.The front and back are both flat and made of glass. There is a camera on the back and the sides are stainless steel with metal buttons. It keeps the 3.5 inch (8.89 cm) screen of past iPhones with the "home" button at the bottom.[
