Steve Jobs of Apple introduces the first Macintosh. It had a graphical user interface or GUI, which provided a visual representation for what was previously lines of DOS code. -

Intel introduces the 386 TM microprocessor which was a 32 bit-chip that brought "multi-tasking" capabilities to the PC. -

Toshiba introduces the T1000 laptop PC. It had battery power and made portable computing more widely available. -
1989
David Levy, chess player, was beaten by a computer. Deep Thought was a computer designed to play chess. It was the second chess computer developed by Feng-hsiung Hsu.
