Z1 Mechanical Calculator
Konrad Zuse completed the Z1 Mechanical Calculator (Originally called V1) in 1938. It contained many components of modern computers but was ultimately destroyed during the war in 1943. -
Z2 Electromechanical Computer
In 1939, Konrad Zuse improved upon the Z1. He created the Z2. The mechanical switches of the Z1 were upgraded to Electromechanical switches. -
Z3 First programmable Calculator
In 1941, Konrad Zuse and Helmut Schreyer completed the Z3. It was the first programmable calculator and if given enough time could do the same calculations a modern computer can. -
Torpedo Data Computer (TDC)
The Torpedo Data Computer was created by the United States Navy in 1943. It was used to help increase the accuracy of torpedoes on submarines. -
Eniac(Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer)
John Mauchly Proposed the Eniac in 1943 and the design was competed by 1945. The machine could run calculations at electronic speeds and did 18,000 calculations. An interesting fact is that the women in the picture were the programmers. They are Jean Jennings and Frances Bilas and both had a degree in Mathematics.
