Cobol
COmmon Business Orientated Language is used when anything from transactions with credit cards, ATM usage, phone calls, traffic signals, or cars. The COBOL development team lead by Dr. Grace Murry Hopper went out to create a friendly system to assist with business stuff. -
Basic
This computer language was developed by college students at Dartmouth College and was designed to be easier to use. Written by Bill Gates and Paul Allen and became Microsoft's first product. Developed by Dennis Ritchie at Bell Telephone Laboratories for use of the Unix operating system. C became powerful enough that some of the Unix programs were rewritten in C. Lunix is based on C. Perl
Developed by Larry Wall, also a Unix programmer, in attempt to get data from Unix that Unix couldn't preform that he needed. Practical Extraction Report Language (PERL) was described by it's inventor as a language for "getting the job done". Used by Craigslist. Ruby

JavaScript
Java and JavaScript and very different. Originally developed by Brendan Eich of Netscape under the name Mocha and used information used by C. Although it's supposed to run client (browsers) it's now finding use with the server as node.js. And AJAK is dependent on JavaScript. Used by RACKSPACE. Developed by a team at microsoft lead by James Gosling. Created in order to run set top boxes for interactive television. Java runs over 1.1 billion computers worldwide and most websites can't function without it. Used by 2004 mars rovers.
