Hewlett-Packard
Hewlett-Packard is Founded. David Packard and Bill Hewlett found Hewlett-Packard in a Palo Alto, California garage. Their first product was the HP 200A Audio Oscillator, which rapidly becomes a popular piece of test equipment for engineers. Walt Disney Pictures ordered eight of the 200B model to use as sound effects generators for the 1940 movie “Fantasia.” This was one of the computer systems to be used by large scale companies. -
Harvard Mark-1
Harvard Mark-1 is completed. Conceived by Harvard professor Howard Aiken, and designed and built by IBM, the Harvard Mark-1 was a room-sized, relay-based calculator. This was the start of IBM and their first computer major computer. -
A-0 Compiler
Grace Hopper completes the A-0 Compiler. In 1952, mathematician Grace Hopper completed what is considered to be the first compiler, a program that allows a computer user to use English-like words instead of numbers. This was the first time that a computer could be read by somebody that couldn't read code. -
First Mass-Produced Computer
The IBM 650 magnetic drum calculator established itself as the first mass-produced computer. -

LINC
The LINC (Laboratory Instrumentation Computer) offered the first real time laboratory data processing. -
Apple
Apple Inc. was founded by by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Apple is still one of the most popular computer companies today. -
Interface Manager
Chase Bishop developed the first interface Manager. This allowed Windows and Apple to both develope farther. -
Apple I and Apple II
These were the first apple computers. This was the first big hit that Apple had. -
Yahoo
Yahoo is founded. Founded by Stanford graduate students Jerry Yang and David Filo, Yahoo started out as "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" before being renamed. Yahoo is one of the most popular search engines today.
