Navigation Acts
These acts required that only English ships be used for trade within British Empire. -
Proclamation of 1763
Declared that no colonial settlement could be establised west of the Appalachian Mountains. -
Sugar Act
This act imposed a tax on all sugar imported into the American colonies. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act required the use of tax stamps on all legal documents, newspapers, pamphlets, and playing cards and certain business agreements. -
Stamp Act Congress
This action marked the first time that a majority of the colonies joined together to oppose a British law. -
Boston Tea Party
Colinists dressed as mohawk indians and dumped almost 350 chests of British tea into Boston harbor as a protest of taxes. -
Coercive Acts
The acts closed the harbor and placed the goverment of Boston under direct British control. -
First Continental Congress
Was held in Philadelphia were delegates form all colonies came. -
Lexington and Concord
The first time that the British soldiers fought with colonists. -
Second Continental Congress
The congress immediatle assumed the powers of a central goverment the main actions were to create an army. -
Resolution of Independence
This was not legally binding and was the first step in making the goverment legal. Richard Henry Lee introduced it. -
Declaration of Independence
Introduced by Thomas Jefferson. It was legally binding and there was no condemation of slavery, states all agreed to it.
