looked at a thin slice of cork(oak cork) through a compound microscope. He observed tiny, hollow, roomlike structures and he called these structures cells. the reason why he called them cell is because the little structures reminded him of the rooms that monks lived in. -

he looked at blood, rainwater, scrapings from teeth through a simplemicroscope with 1 lens. He also observed living cells; called some 'Animalcules'. they are now known as Bacteria. -
