Robert Hooke
Hooke discovered cells while looking at a thin piece of cork under a microscope He also introduced the word "cell" into science as the name of the empty spaces contained by walls. -
Period: to
Leeuwenhoek
-(1674)Leeuwenhoek learned that polishing lenses can improve magnification in microscopes ,discovered "animacules"(1676), and discovered bacteria from a sample of saliva in his mouth (1683).
He didn't disprove Hooke, only advanced on his findings with a better microscope -
Durtrochet
Finally, Durtrochet made the discovery that all living things are made up of cells based off his studies and the continuation of the wprks of previous scientists -
Dujardin
Felix Dujardin noticed the "jelly-like" fluid in the cells which he called protoplasm (now called protoplasm, cytoplasm, or cytosol). He recognized the existense of single celled organisms that leeuwenhoek previously described and proved that cells were actually not hollow. -
Schleiden
Matthias Schlieden discovered thst plants were made up of cells which was a continuation of Dujardin's findings -
Schwann
Theodor Schwann discovered animal cells by studying the works of Schleiden and continuing it. -
Virchow
Rudolph Virchow stated that all living things come from other living things which advanced on the previous models
