Hans and Zacharias Janson
Hans and Zacharias Jason invented the first microscope. This allowed other scientist discover observe microscopic organisms. -
Jean Baptist van Helmont
He believed in spontaneous generation. One of his theories that he taught was if someone put wheat seeds on a dirty shirt house mice will appear within 21 days. -
Robert Hooke
Robert Hooke looked through a microscope and saw that a cork had cells. With that information he made the conclusion that all plants have cells. This made scientists rethink their theory about plants, which have cells, could come from something without cells. -
Francesco Redi
Francesco Redi proved that spontaneous generation didn’t cause maggots to grow from spoiled meet. Instead he proved that flies laid eggs in the rotting meat, which was were the maggots can from. This made more people not believe in spontaneous generation. -
Anton van Leewenhoek
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was the first microbiologist. He also made the magnification of the microscope more intense, therefor he could see the cells with more detail. Also Anton van Leeuwenhoek was one of the first scientists to see blood cells. -
Lazzaro Spallanzani
Lazzaro Spallanzani proved that organisms didn’t come from broth. He did this by boiling broth. After he sterilized the broth he noticed that organisms still grew. This proved to scientists that organisms didn’t grow in broth. -
Rene Dutrochet
Rene Dutrochet discovered that cells are the fundamental element in the structure of an animal or a plant. He also came up with the idea that "new" cells are within "older" cells. -
Theodor Schwann and Mathias Schleiden
Both Theodor Schwann and Mathias Schleiden proved that animals and plants were entirely made up of many different types of cells. This made scientists start to research about how cells could come from nowhere. -
Rudolf Virchow
Rudolf Virchow hypothesized that all cells come from an already existing cell or a preexisting cell. Also in his Hypothesis he said that cells divide to form/produce new cells. -
Louis Pasteur
Louis Pasteur did more research on broth. He got two bottles with an S shaped neck and filled them up with broth. Then he sealed and boiled them. After he boiled them he brook the seal of one of the bottles. A little while later saw observed bacteria in the bottle with the broken seal not the seal bottle. This proved that spontaneous generation wrong by showing organisms had to come from somewhere else. -
Ernst Ruska
Ernst Ruska invented the first electronic microscope. This special microscope let scientist study cells in much greater detail. -
