The Unsucessful Second Crusade
Pope Urban II told Bernard of Clairvaux (in France) to preach the same think he did to his people about the second crusade. The King and Queen of France was on board as well as Comrad III of Germany. The Fourth Crusade Twist
The Crusaders didnt have enough ships to sail to egypt so they went to Venice, Italy to get some ships, but didnt have enough money. The Venetians then made a deal with them, The Venetians wanted the Crusaders to help them fight, to get the city of Zara( Hungary). The Crusaders made alllies with the Seljuk sultan and attacked Damietta, Egypt. Both sides incountered disease which killed a lot. Friedrich recieved an offer from Al Kamil, the Ayyubid sultan of Egypt. The deal was If Friedrich help put Al Kamil`s brother in power of Syria, he would hand over Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem.
