School Museums
The first school museum ws opened in St. Louis in 1905. -
1910- First catalog of motion picture was published in schools.

1914-1923: The Growth of Visual Instruction Movement
Five national professional organizations for visual instruction were established. -
Instructional Radio
during this era, technological advances in such area as radio broadcasting, sound recordings, and sound motion pictures led to the increase interest in instructional media. -
World War II
With the onset of World War II, the growth of the audiovisual instruction movement slowed; however, it was used extensively by the military services. -
1950; Instructional Television
One of the most important factors to affect the audiovisual movement in the 1950s was the increased interest in television for delivering instruction. -
1970-1980: Increase in the use of the Microcomputer
There was an increase in the number of computers that was used in schools for educational purposes. By the early 1980s, a few years aftr the micro---computers became available to the general public. -
1995-Recent Developments
Since 1995, rapid advances in computer and other digital technology, as well as the Internet, hae led to a rapidly increasing interest in, and use of, these media for instructional purposes. -
Increase in the use of the internet
Since 195 there has been a significant increase in the amount of technology available in schools in the United States.
